Let's build together the White Flag Coffee Campus
Donation protected
Dear Supporters,
We are Christina, Markos & Juan Pablo from the White Flag Coffee project (www.whiteflag.coffee) and El Patojismo (https://elpatojismo.edu.gt), and we would like to invite you to build together with us the White Flag Coffee Campus on the rooftop of the new school building of El Patojismo public school in Jocotenango, Guatemala.
The White Flag Coffee Campus aims to empower young adults in Guatemala to work in the coffee sector. As there is no public and free education for people in Guatemala to receive a coffee education, we see here a possibility to pave the way for many young people to join our international coffee community and thus also create a path to financial independence.
Students will have free access to a coffee curriculum that will provide them with hands-on courses in:
- Barista-Skills
- Roasting
- Green Grading
- Sensoric Knowledge
- Insights into the agricultural part of coffee production - Insights into the export & selling of coffee
- Sustainability approaches of the coffee sector
- Business skills to work in the coffee sector
To offer a professional education, we want to fund donations for a coffee lab to provide all necessary equipment to train the hands-on parts of the education.
Please find here an overview of all the equipment needed according to the SCAA standards.
What will the White Flag Coffee Campus look like?
The coffee lab of White Flag Coffee Campus will be on the rooftop of our school partner "El Patojismo " which offers free education for kids in Jocotenango. The public school of “El Patojismo” (“The little one”) was founded by Juan Pablo Romero Fuentes over ten years ago. Today, the school provides education, health care, food and entrepreneurial training to over 150 students that do not only benefit from the holistic approach the curriculum provides but from the love all teachers put into their work to make the little ones grow and change.
The White Flag Coffee Campus Lab will be connected to the terrace that has a fully functional coffee bar and is serving the dining space where the public is invited to enjoy local food, beverages and, of course, a good cup of Guatemalan coffee - all prepared by the students themselves. The Lab will provide all facilities to enable the green grading, roasting & sensoric education students will need to succeed in many areas in the coffee industry.
The coffee curriculum also encourages students to do internships and training at local coffee shops, coffee labs and farms to dive deeper into the knowledge of coffee. If possible, we could even imagine an abroad exchange program with roasters and coffee shops around the world to give students the chance to learn from different cultural backgrounds and their approach to coffee. Since the school is bilingual (Spanish & English), students are well prepared for an international working sector.
White Flag Coffee and “El Patojismo ” will provide the space & salary for coffee professional teachers to provide an ongoing curriculum to the students of “El Patojismo”.
The White Flag Coffee Campus Summer Festival
To end the educational cycle of the WFC coffee campus, we would like to create a yearly Coffee Summer Camp & Festival where we will invite international partners and students to come together in the space of “El Patojismo” to exchange, learn & teach together.
Summer Camp will be the event where students will officially “graduate” from their curriculum and get their certifications.
On the other hand, coffee professionals are invited to teach and participate in courses with our students and producer partners.
How can you support the White Flag Coffee Campus?
To implement the White Flag Coffee Campus, we have set the campaign target at 50.000 Euro. 42.000 euros is our projection of the costs for the equipment. We have already reached our fundraising goal of 8000 Euros for the construction of the lab.
Now it is up to all of us to raise funds for the equipment!
Our goal is to be able to offer the first course in October 2022!
