Building a Better Future, One Student at a Time

Tax deductible
Change someone's life today by giving them a better future.
You can make a difference by donating now to Esperanza de Guatemala's Giving Tuesday campaign "Building a Better Future...One Student at a Time."

Imagine the village of Nimasac in the state of Totonicopan, Guatemala, one of the poorest regions in an impoverished country. It has one elementary school and no middle or high school. Before the Esperanza de Guatemala/Cary Presbyterian Church scholarship program, many students stopped school after 6th grade, although a few were fortunate to finish 8th grade. Now, students are attending middle school, high school, vocational school, and this year, we are celebrating the first graduate from university, Griselda! Since its inception four years ago, our scholarship program has supported over 37 different students representing 85 scholarships.

WITH YOUR SUPPORT this Giving Tuesday, we hope to fully fund our 38 2022 student applicants, including 17 new participants!

Meet Andrea, one of our students who is definitely building a better future. She is in her early twenties, and started in the scholarship program with the goal of earning the Guatemalan equivalent of a GED. She continued to vocational school, and is a recent 2021 Nurses Assistant graduate! Andrea plans to continue her education with an additional diploma in Medicine, and perhaps on to university to be a RN.

The video below is from Andres, a student in English. Andres is one of many who state that they want an education to 'have a better life,' a way out of the deep poverty which is common in Totonicopan.

Give hope! (That's what Esperanza means!) Hopes to get past 6th grade, 8th grade, to finish high school (a rarity among the Maya living in rural villages like Nimasac). Hopes, even, to go to university—and graduate! Hopes that teachers can get some further training, that copy paper is available, that computers, instead of cellphones, can be used to teach online.

Our Giving Tuesday goal this year is a response to those hopes. Your help is needed to
"Build a Better Future, One Student at a Time."
We hope that you will join us to help make these hopes come to fruition.
