Building a Clinic for the Children of Mapapa
Donation protected
Over the past two years, we have been able to rescue more than fifteen girls forced into child marriages and provide for starving children in the village of Mapapa. This was only made possible through your love and support in building an elementary boarding school. Today these children are fully clothed; receiving nutritious, daily meals; and are happy and thriving, free to play in a safe environment.
Many of the children are now only one year from graduating elementary school. This presents us with the very real and urgent need for a secondary school. Without it, the children won’t be able to graduate high school and, in all likelihood, end up back where they started: living in places where food is scarce, the water unsanitary, and the girls facing the very real threat of being sold as child-brides.
In addition, we are in desperate need of a proper medical clinic. Currently, the village clinic is a small, poorly equipped shack. What few supplies it has are frequently and easily stolen. The children who come to us are often in need of urgent medical care, some diagnosed with chronic illnesses. Without a proper, well-stocked clinic the children are unable to receive the care they so desperately need.
The risks these children face every day are devastating. However, we have come up with a plan to meet those needs head-on. Our hope is to build a secondary school. By completing their education, the children will grow into dynamic members of their community, contributing to the health, growth, and development of their village for generations to come.
We are also working on plans to build a secure, well-staffed clinic. Through the clinic, children and the families of Mapapa will have immediate access to health care rather than having to make the two-hour drive to the next medical facility.
Thanks to your generous donations over the last two years, we were able to purchase land and are now ready to begin building. However, due to the economic crisis, we have seen a drastic increase in the cost of everything within the country of Zambia. This includes building materials and labor costs in addition to the cost of paying bride-prices to rescue young girls, and the cost of everyday necessities that come with the running of a boarding school for so many children.
We estimate it will cost $1 Million to both build and fully stock the new secondary-boarding school and medical clinic while continuing to feed and clothe the children who come to us in need of a safe haven and rescue girls being sold as child-brides.
Below you will find a breakdown of our current estimated cost:
Secondary-Boarding School: $500,000 USD
- Includes fully stocked buildings includes: classrooms, dormitories, a library, a science lab and a skills center.
Fully Stocked Clinic: $300,000 USD
Four-Six Months Operational Cost: $200,000
- Includes staff salaries for the clinic and both elementary & secondary schools, medical expenses for all students, bride-prices, electricity, general facility repairs, nutritious food, clothing, farm operational cost
Because of your partnership, we have already achieved so much and, with your support, we know we can do even more.
I humbly ask you consider partnering with us to bring hope, education, and healing to the village of Mapapa.
Thank you so much for your love, care and support throughout this journey. You are amazing!
Love, Dora
