Build a preschool in South Africa

Friendship, Commitment, and Partnership Bring a School to Fruition

On a trip to South Africa, eight friends visited Khayelitsha, a township near Cape Town, for a service project at the Nokwanda Educare Centre, a preschool or “crèche.” The school’s director, Nokwanda, and two other teachers were very dedicated to providing the young children with good academic programs – and serving the Khayelitsha community with activities and health care programs for older children and adults.

However, the facility, which was constructed of the most basic materials, was overcrowded and needed safety improvements to the building. We committed to supporting the Nokwanda Educare Center with a new school building, and the non-profit Project YES Africa was born.

Construction began a few months ago, using innovative eco-friendly technology and local workers from the township wherever possible. The foundation, framing, and roofing have been completed, and the construction work continues. Project YES Africa has already raised 80% of the funds needed for the new school; we're in the home stretch now! Every charitable contribution brings us closer to allowing the preschoolers to return to a safer, expanded learning environment and allowing Nokwanda to serve more children.
