A School For Entrepreneurs In Africa

AN ENTREPRENEUR FROM MALAWI PAYING IT FORWARD

About a month ago I started mentoring with Bridge For Billions, an organization that matches entrepreneurs in need of advice and mentorship with mentors and advisors to help them get their ideas off the ground and grow. To my initial surprise, I was matched with a young man from Malawi, Africa, named Emmanuel Mzembe.

I want to start by letting everyone know just how moved I was by getting to know him; he has had an incredible impact on my life and changed the lens through which I view the world in a very short amount of time. Emmanuel is the most thoughtful, caring, joyous and inspiring people I have ever met. So much so,  I decided to build this fundraiser to help him achieve his dream.

Please meet Emmanuel and hear from him a bit about his background:

(I tried to tell him to smile more during his videos!!! He has a smile that never leaves his face yet when he's on camera he's super serious!)

Through a little luck and an immense amount of hard work, Emmanuel was fortunate enough to get a great education. In turn that education landed him a job as a science teacher. However, Emmanuel's awareness of his own achievement weighed on him because he knew how lucky he'd been to have a father that pushed him hard in the right direction for so many years whereas every other person he'd known growing up would never have the same opportunity.

So he and his colleague decided to walk away from income and stability, exactly what they thought they had been working so hard for over decades to achieve, to pay it all forward, exponentially.

The most amazing part is that he's not even trying to achieve his own dream because he's already done that by getting an education and starting a career. He's working on dream #2: to provide access to and deliver education to hundreds of people who would not otherwise be able to have such on their own. HE'S REINVESTING HIS EDUCATION BACK INTO THE FABRIC OF HIS SOCIETY INSTEAD OF PERSONALLY GAINING FROM IT.

The reason we are here on GoFundMe is that Emmanuel is really struggling to keep the lights on and that's literal not figurative. He is trying to hold on to the one property he could get as a starting point, but it is in desperate need of repairs.

Emmanuel is not alone on this journey as he has inspired others to leave their well-paying jobs (relatively speaking of course) and take the meager offerings he can provide in return for their services. However, due to reduced "enrollment" numbers directly attributed to the conditions of the school, he is currently unable to pay their salaries even at their nominal amounts. They have graciously agreed to stay on, hoping Emmanuel can work things out soon. That's where you and I come in!

We all know the saying "Give a person a fish, feed them for a day; teach a person to fish, feed them for a lifetime." The truly remarkable realization that Emmanuel has discovered, that has become the foundation of his philosophy, is why teach people to fish when you can teach them how to build a fishing company.
