Building Parris Underground

Parris Underground is an all-ages, alcohol-free music venue anchoring its roots in the heart of Severna Park.

In our infant stage, we are looking for community help with the funds needed for music equipment, building supplies, and bar accessories. Husband and wife duo Laura MacKay and Travis Guare are constructing the venue as a space where everyone can feel at home. With their family growing (baby on the way!) and operating Magnolia Wellness next door, their financial resources aren’t able to cover everything the space will need. So any donation amount helps greatly!!

A bit of history from Laura:

“My love for local music started in middle school when I learned about Friday-night concerts at Woods Holy Grounds. In 2004, I started hosting shows at Manhattan Beach Clubhouse, something that would create a sense of family and community I never thought possible. We continued music at Manhattan for a decade, growing our music family, celebrating giant wins and supporting each other through heartbreaking losses.

I found myself continually immersed in local music as I bartended at The Whiskey and Stan & Joe’s in Annapolis. In 2017, a group of friends and I ran LocalEcho Productions, hosting monthly pop-ups and bringing our flavor to Frozen Harbor.

The longing to get back to my roots of making all music accessible to any age finally grew to a point of action. Deciding that alcohol didn’t need to be in our home five years ago, we have struggled to find ways to stay social that weren’t centered around drinking. As friends have joined the sober world, it has been a common complaint we’ve heard from them, as well. I wanted to make a space centered around music, where there wasn’t the pressure of intoxication. We now find ourselves starting Parris Underground!”

We appreciate any help the community can give, and are forever grateful for the equipment donations, advice, and support we have already received. We can’t wait to support the local music scene!
