Building the Doherty Family!

Big news! Marco and Kevin are building a family, and they need our help.

For over a year, Marco and Kevin have been hard at work to make their longtime dream of adoption a reality. After a lot of preparation, studying, and research, they got a call—much sooner than they ever expected—that they had been chosen as a prospective home for a six-year-old boy and his two-year-old half-sister.

The average private adoption can cost up to $40,000 in fees and services. In this extraordinary case, Marco and Kevin would need to cover the cost of two adoptions within a very short amount of time (in addition to tackling the finances of family life!). While they’ve worked hard—through career pivots and cross-country moves—to prepare for adoption, they need our help.

One of the two siblings is up for immediate placement in a new home. Instead of a traditional baby shower, let’s rally together through April 30th to help the Dohertys build their family while keeping these siblings out of the foster care system and in the same home.

Marco and Kevin have already paid over $20k in expenses so far. Our fundraising goal of $23,000 would cover the remaining costs for the first adoption:

⁃Licensed child psychologist specializing in home transitions ($5,000)

⁃Required training for older adoption ($60)

⁃Birth Parent Counseling Fees (TBD)

⁃Adoptive Parent Counseling Fees ($175/session)

⁃Match Management Fee ($6,500)

⁃Birth Parent Advisement ($1,500)

⁃Agency Out of Office Fees ($1,000)

⁃Relinquishment ($2,000)

⁃Birthfather Relinquishment ($1,750)

⁃Post-placement supervision ($2,500)

⁃Finalization documents ($750)

Any additional funds would go toward additional costs for the first adoption, the adoption of the second child, and parenthood.
