Help Build His House: A Home for the Community

Help build His house! On April 28, 2021, a cigarette in the front planter box of the church would cause a fire that would fast-track the course and direction of the church. Flames grew high, and crowds of people came to watch as fire and smoke billowed from the building. A three-alarm fire called on Redwood City Fire Department and neighboring fire departments which were quick on the scene and able to get to the fire speedily. However, the damage had a significant impact and the building was deemed as limited access by the city of Redwood City. Today, Rise City is building for its future in the Bay Area.

Rise City Church was founded in 1930 in Redwood City, CA. Throughout its 94-year history, it has continued to be a light in the community it is surrounded by. With a rich history of outreach, missions, and educational contributions, Rise City is a historical marker in the cities it serves.

In most recent developments, Rise City partnered with a non-profit developer to raise up the city together to provide a fully affordable housing project in the community - Rise City Apartments. After the fire, this partnership is what assisted in the journey into a historic building project endeavor!

The founding vision described the church as a lighthouse and filling station. Today, the vision remains the same. To be a place of security and love to the community, while simultaneously providing for the needs of those that come and go each week.

In planning for the future, Rise City will be launching a vintage thrift shop that will fund the expansion of our Clothes Closet and forge additional relationships with local vendors to provide new unworn clothing for free in the community.

In partnership with the vintage thrift store Rise City will be opening a coffee shop and shared workspace. This will provide jobs in the community and a place of work, study, and collaboration right in the heart of the city.

We believe the church can be a center of health in serving San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. We remain diligent in meeting the needs of the community in tangible ways, extending our reach to multi-ethnic and multi-generational cities on the rise.
