Bumble Bee Relocation and Rescue Plan
Donation protected
Bumble Bees are truly in decline. The main reason for this is habitat loss, meaning no places for them to forage and nest safely. They need places to thrive without them being under threat of destruction. Hundreds, if not thousands of Bumble Bee nests in Washington State are destroyed, due to the lack of education and the help for relocation services. The bees sometimes nest in awkward locations; such as under sheds, in bird houses, and in attics where humans come into contact with them and get stung. Therefore, the nest is destroyed. Most people don't want to have the bees killed, but their financial situation cannot afford someone to relocate them or they don't know such services even exist. So, they end up killing them out of need.
A plan is needed to prevent all these precious nests from being destroyed. You can help!
I have organized a plan to relocate as many nests as possible that are under threat of destruction. Furthermore, we need to record each nest captured, and tag the ones that don't need relocation. If enough data is collected, over time, we will have valuable information on how well our bees are doing in our state. This will give us the ability to take action to save the bees before they go in severe decline.
For this work to happen, we need support. I am a freelancer in this project spearheading the plan. The project will be under my company's name, Wasp Away/Bee Habitable.
Currently, I have been doing almost all the relocations for free, and ask people to donate to me what they can afford. Sometimes they choose to give me whatever is in their garage they can spare. Or $20 for gas money.
These things are very kind on their part. However, it truly does not compensate the cost of doing free relocations for people in my community, especially with gas being so high in price.
In the future, I plan to present the data collected to bigger organizations that will fund this project through grants. However, that takes time, and bees need help now!
The bees are in your hands! Donations will go to getting better equipment for bee boxes and dwelling places, pollen testing, bee vacuums, and general expenses of traveling from house to house.
It is paramount that enough funds are raised to support the work, and the others that may join me. The more funds raised, the more places I can travel too.
Thank you!
