Bunch of tools stole my Dad’s tools

Donation protected
So as you may or may not have seen over the past couple of days, my dads van was stolen from our street and although it is insured - the thousands of pounds worth of tools inside that he used to do his job and ensure livelihood are not, as to do so just costs more than our family can afford. We haven’t heard a thing from police since it was reported and haven’t even had a face to face visit or conversation. Unfortunately our neighbours ring camera only catches the top third of the van being driven away at 1:11am - no pictures of the thieves. Thank you for all the messages from people who’ve experienced the same and for those who’ve kindly offered some help in donating tools. From what I’ve seen this is clearly becoming a crime that happens too often to bother doing anything about it.

In 2017, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, and although she is free from the disease, she still suffers mentally, emotionally, and physically from the toll it all took on all three of us. I bring this up because the one and only positive thing to come from that situation was that her critical illness insurance meant that my parents were able to pay off the mortgage to their home.

Because of the horrible people who I doubt even have the brain capacity to think beyond surface level and how this could affect us, my mum and dad will most likely need to remortgage our family home and this will continue to take a massive financial toll on my parents beyond that.

It’s extremely hurtful to know that the struggling and hard work both of my parents have been through in their lives can be spoiled so easily. I worry for their health as a situation like this can make someone ill with stress or worry. My dad has worked as a plumber since he was 14 years old and is now 53 - he’s the hardest working person I know and all he’s ever wanted is to provide for his family.

A lot of people got in touch to ask us to set up a donation page. We feel really uncomfortable about this if we’re honest, because there’s so many awful things going on in the world, and are aware how tough times are in the current climate. This doesn’t feel like one of the things that deserve asking people for their hard earned money to help with. However, I don’t want to see my family struggle, and know that the people of Dundee always band together when one of us need it.

We do not ask for or expect anything from anybody, and please let me make that and the fact that this is not an attempt at a sob story crystal clear. But if you would like to donate even a tiny amount, we would appreciate it so much. The reality is that this will inevitably change our financial situation pretty massively, but if even a little bit could help buy one thing back then I see that as something.

Times are so difficult for everyone right now and rather than steal from and attack each other we should be showing one another support and helping wherever we can. To be clear, this money will go to assist in paying for new equipment for my dad so that he can actually go back to work and earn money again.
