UPDATE: 6/21/23
Thank you everyone for all of your support. We feel it is important to share an update. Yesterday, 6/20/23, Samyrah was transferred from the children's hospital to Scottish Rite where she will be for 4-6 weeks for rehabilitation and orthopedic services. She is still not able to bear weight or walk and has limited use of her hands. Khaleb was discharged from the hospital the day after the accident and is doing well, but continues to need wound care services.
The family is now faced with the daunting task of cleaning out the family home and bringing the children's belongings to Texas. This will involve travel to and from, movers, cleaning crew and whatever is needed for living in Texas.
Thank you for all of your support, prayers, words of encouragement and sharing of this link through this most difficult time. Please continue to lift the family in prayer as they navigate this journey.

UPDATE: June 12, 2023
First and foremost. Thank you everyone for your generous financial contributions, kind words, condolences and prayers. As we are starting the healing process l would like to provide another update for you.

Samyrah remains in the hospital and we will be starting training this week to prepare her for discharge. The training will include learning how to use a hoyer lift, how to transfer her to a sitting position and helping her with all activities for daily living, like bathing etc.  She will require a hospital bed, hoyer lift, wheelchair accessibility to the home, transfer board, physical therapy, rehabilitation and home health care as well as other services to help with her healing.

UPDATE: Today, June 9, 2023, Shuntell, Mike and Abby were laid to rest . Samyrah is still in the hospital and was able to view the service via Zoom.  The family would like to thank everyone for your generous financial contributions, kind words, condolences and prayers.

It has been a very difficult time for my dear friend's family. On May 24th, my friend's sister and her family were traveling from New Orleans to Dallas, Tx for their eldest child's high school graduation. The family was involved in a tragic accident that claimed the lives of the mother (Shuntell), father (Mike) and 16 year old daughter (Abby).  Blessedly, the two other children survived the crash. Samyrah (age 15) was transported by care flight to Children's Hospital in Dallas, where she remains and is now in stable condition. Khaleb (age 12) was transported by ambulance to Children's Hospital, and thankfully has been released and is still recovering from his injuries.

My dear friend Tyra is now having to navigate the care of her nephews and niece.  Her niece has a long road to recovery, which includes the need for extensive medical care, medical equipment and rehabilitation once she is released from the hospital.

The family is forever grateful for your prayers and well wishes. Many have asked how they can financially support the family and this GoFundMe has been created to assist with financial donations. The financial support will be used to get to and from New Orleans for the funerals, for relocation expenses, medical expenses and other expenses needed to care for these children.

If you are able to contribute financially it will be deeply appreciated, but please continue to lift this family in prayer for this long road to recovery and healing. We will be forever thankful.
