Burial costs for James Michael Brown
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Deb Brown and I've set up this GoFundMe for my brother Jim Brown's memorial, grave marker, and burial costs. There will be a memorial service on December 30th, 2022 at Barber funeral home in Horseheads. His burial will be this spring at Forest Lawn Cemetary.
Jim was hitchhiking with 2 friends in 1965 on Broadway in Elmira NY. He just turned 18 two months before. The drunk driver that picked them up in his 1965 convertible Mustang was being followed by an officer from the beer tent at the Chemung County Fair. The officer waited while the 3 teens got in the Mustang. The driver began speeding, speeds well past 115 mph. The boys yelled to be let out, the driver said "not until I shake this cop." My brother was in the front passenger seat holding on for dear life. In the rain, the green Mustang began to fishtail at speeds of 120 mph, it hit a tree head-on. My brother was ejected right out of his white converse sneakers, through the convertible roof landing out of sight in a neighbor's rose garden. The engine of the Mustang ripped from the vehicle landing on another neighbor's front porch. As the driver, and two of the teens were being taken to the ambulance, one of the boys said wait! Jim Brown! Go find Jim! The EMTs looked with flashlights and found Jim in a yellow peace rose bush. His last words were, "call my mom." Jim suffered a traumatic brain stem injury. He was in a coma for a very long time. An ambulance brought him home on Christmas eve to die. My strong-willed parents especially my mom, gave Jim the will to live. Volunteers came to pattern Jim in our home which led to him finally being able to stand and take steps. Unfortunately, Jim went downhill after getting covid and never fully recovered. Without much in his burial trust fund any amount, that you could donate would help with the costs.
Thank you in advance, Debbie and Jim's family.
