BURKEVILLE VFD NEEDS A LUCAS DEVICE
Donation protected
In loving memory of Larry Jarrell, his family is raising money that will go directly to the Burkeville Volunteer Fire Dept. for the purchase of a “Lund University Cardiac Assist System” also called a LUCAS Device.
The BVFD along with Alliance EMS was called to the home of Larry Jarrell on Monday, July 4th, 2022. Larry was in cardiac arrest. His family watched as each member of the BVFD and the Alliance EMT workers took turns administering CPR. It was obvious that it takes every ounce of strength and energy to correctly perform CPR, and it became physically exhausting for them very quickly. We watched as they took turns fighting to save his life. They gave all they had until the very end, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to save Larry.
We have quickly realized that the LUCAS device is a tool that ALL EMT’s, VFD’s and First Responders MUST have. It is a necessary tool that will provide life saving measures and allow our First Responders to further and more completely care for the needs their patients.
The Burkeville Volunteer Fire Dept. is a group of people who selflessly sacrifice their time and efforts to meet the needs of others. They receive no compensation for their efforts and often fund many of the financial needs of the department themselves. A LUCAS device is out of their budget at $16,000, that is why we are asking for your help. When a LUCAS device is used on a patient it increases their odds of survival by 40% by providing automatic chest compressions when necessary.
We’re looking to the community to help the BVFD purchase this device. Any amount will help them, and no amount is too small to give. It’s a tool that we all will want our Emergency Service Providers to have in their arsenal should we ever have to call them to render aide to one of our loved ones, or even ourselves in the future.
Please, give what you can.
