Burnaby Neighbourhood House’s Welcoming Place
Thank you to all those who donated to the Flood campaign! Our Welcoming Place is back up and running after 3 months of hiatus.
“We need to restore back the place we called our Community’s Heart.” The Burnaby Neighbourhood House (BNH) Welcoming Place is a vibrant and inclusive space where neighbours are greeted and introduced to much needed community programs and services.
Sadly, on December 23, 2022, a water pipe burst in the ceiling of the building affecting the Welcoming Place as well as reception and extending offices. What used to be a frontline central hub for drop-in visits, grabbing a cup of coffee, making connections, and engaging in the community is now closed due to the flood damage. This was also the place where we utilized the many skills and talents of multi-lingual volunteers who assisted us to welcome newcomers and provide information in different languages. This past year alone – even with COVID restrictions - over 11,000 people either came in-person or called over the phone looking for help, resources and referrals.
We now need your helping hands and big hearts to support us in our fundraiser for restoring the Welcoming Place. Our goal is to raise $10, 000 to pay for repairs and damaged equipment. Every little bit counts in our efforts to bring back the place where the community connects, engages, and belongs.
From a place built by neighbours, for neighbours; thank you for donating and we look forward to seeing you at BNH soon.
