Support for Burning Rainbow Studios

By donating to this GoFundMe you will be helping to cover costs for damages and lost wages over the last 9 months at Burning Rainbow Studio. Your donation will assist financially in covering the effects of the floods and any deductibles associated, installing security measures, help in the recovery of a beloved guitar, and to provide a financial buffer to help Neil mitigate the financial blows that 2020 has brought.
There’s no doubt that this has been a tough year for us all, so whatever you can spare is deeply and truly appreciated.
Neil is one of the most giving, loving humans on this planet. His entire life is built around community and collaboration. He is a person that goes above and beyond, not just for his loved ones, but for anyone who needs a hand. If you are reading this, chances are he’s touched your life in someway. Let’s show the man who always has our backs, that we have his.
As a touring musician and owner of Burning Rainbow Studio, our dear friend Neil Cooke-Dalin saw most of his livelihood evaporate. Always solution focused, Neil pivoted his business however he could, knuckled down and got on with it; continuing to be the generous, kind, supportive friend we all know and love.
Over Thanksgiving weekend, in the middle of a recording session with a client, the entire back half of the studio was flooded. Heavy rains and blocked pipes had caused a torrent of water to flood the building from the 6th floor all the way down to the basement studio, damaging expensive equipment and cancelling booked sessions. Neil worked flat out getting the studio back into operating condition, all while dealing with challenges from the insurance company. By the end of November he was able to reopen his doors and try and recoup some income.
On December 9th, while working at the studio, Neil heard the sound of water dripping in the kitchen and realized (once again) there was water coming from the above floors, specifically in the area above his prized mixing console. Broken plumbing on a 2nd floor toilet caused grey water to cascade through the ceiling, damaging his mixing board and other equipment. Another claim was made with the insurance company and a restoration team dispatched to clean and assess the damage.
Just so you’re keeping track, that’s two floods in a month!
As we rolled into the holiday season, the repairs were taking shape, with Neil working hard alongside the restoration teams. Things were looking up, the restoration was going well and there had even been some new licks of paint on the walls. On Boxing Day Neil woke up to message that the studio had been broken into. Seemingly a targeted hit, they found the only missing item was his beloved 1976 Gibson Les Paul Signature Hollow Body Sunburst Guitar - a guitar that he had had for over 20 years and likened the loss to that of “losing a limb”. Once again Neil found himself dealing with the insurance company and, for the first time, Victoria PD.
So that’s two floods and a robbery in 6 weeks, on top of 9 months of loss of income.
On New Years Eve, Neil noticed that the studio locks were jimmied open - someone was coming back for another hit. Neil stayed in the studio that night, preventing this robbery, and has spent the last 5 days installing new security measures, while sleeping on the studio’s couch.
With your help, we hope to be able to launch him into 2021 with a little more stability.
Thanks again for your support!
