BUS WRECK CALHOUN CO WV
Donation protected
Hello, We, Meagan and Miranda Casto are aunt's of Kevin Wilson.
We are fundraising for our precious nephew that was in the tragic Bus wreck in Calhoun co . Wv on Monday March 4, 2024. He was on the after school activity bus along with 18 other children. After departing, just two miles from the school the bus wrecked . The bus driver was arrested at the scene for DUI. At the scene he blew a reading of .161. The responders was able to get all 19 children in 47 minutes to one hospital and some to another . All together there was 3 that was lifelighted out.( 2 from the scene and Kevin from hospital he was at to CAMC ) It was reported none was life - threatening. Our 14 year old nephew Kevin was one of those babies that ended up being life-flighted to CAMC hospital in Charleston WV because he had no pulse or blood flow to his right leg.
He went straight in for emergency surgery which took 6 hours. They had to do a by-pass and grafting . After surgery of course we thought we would know then if his leg could be saved. Unfortunately, there was still a 50/50 chance he will lose his right leg. The issue with this is, if his leg is saved right now unfortunately, the by-pass and graft that was done is temporary. So, unfortunately our precious boy will lose his right leg later in left regardless.
UPDATE :
Over the last few days he has tried so hard to stay in good spirits. But in lots of pain so he has been sleep cause of the medication. They keep checking the blood flow in his foot and today sounded better. He has not had any feeling at all in his foot or toes.
UPDATE : Today Praise God he had feeling in 2 of his toes. He went in for surgery today at 2:55pm to close up a little bit of his leg. They had to leave his wounds open cause of swelling. So they are going to be closed as much as possible as quick as possible. They are planning this coming Monday to go back for another surgery to put 2 screws in his right femur cause it's broke. He has a long hard road ahead of him with many more surgeries to come.
UPDATE : They could not do the surgery today after going in. His muscle in his leg does not look good so they have to wait. They are putting a wound-vac on his leg. This means more than likely he's going to have skin grafts done to repair the skin that will get damaged from the wound -vac.
UPDATE : Unfortunately, he had loss blood flow and pulse to his leg. It was in Kevin's best interest to amputate his right leg just below the knee.
CORRECTION: : We was told his amputation was below the knee but it was actually above the knee.
He is now (3/28/24) finishing up 3 weeks of being in the hospital. Since his amputation took place
He is having phantom pains and muscle spasms. It helps him if when he hurts oh his right leg that he feels is still there, we rub his leg and foot on his left side. That seems to ease the pain some.
He is going to have to receive a new prosthetic leg every year till he stops growing. That should be 21-24yrs old. Lots of doctor appts, physical tneraphy etc.
They was so blessed to be able to build a ramp and porch for kevin. That would not of happen if it was not for you alls donations. We thank you SO much.
** We all are on a very fixed income. I have edited our needs since they are less since Kevin was discharged from the hospital. We are seeking financial assistance for our family for transportation cost for his appointments ( cause the hospital is not local) and the upkeep on the vehicles while going to all the appointments that may be needed from excessive driving.
Please pray for our little angel he's going thru so much . We want to thank everyone in advance for your donations, kind words and prayers. I will add pictures and updates as they come. Thank You & God Bless ❤️
I INCLUDED A P.O. BOX WE GOT FOR HIM FOR HIS MAIL.
