Buses to the Capitol-BAUnites4Kids
Donation protected
BAUnites4Kids is a teacher led initiative to rally the Broken Arrow teachers and community in the effort to support the state in an educational walkout if Oklahoma Legislation hasn't fully funded education by April 1st. The walk out is set for April 2nd across the state of Oklahoma.
BAUnites4 Kids is now seeking funding to rent buses in order to transport teachers to the Oklahoma Capitol daily. Any donation large or small will help our teachers rally at the Capitol to show their support for education.
Each bus will cost approximately $500 and will transport 50 adults.
The root of why teachers are walking- To SAVE PUBLIC EDUCATION! We have seen the decline for funding for the last 10 years. After so many broken promises and having been told that they care about teachers, we no longer trust the legislative system. From the teachers desk it seems the opposite. It seems they have sought to destroy public education by dismantling it from every angle. Added requirements with no funding to accomplish them. Taken per pupil funding monies while we gained students. They haven’t paid teachers a raise in the last 10 years and placed Oklahoma at the bottom of the barrel in the United States, which has driven wonderful and talented educators out of the state because they are tired of working 3 jobs to be able to pay the bills. And on top of that, district funds have steadily decreased over the last 10 years. We are back to receiving from the state the same amount as we received in 2008, dealing with inflation and additional students AND a decrease of teachers available to teach. It has been a destructive mix of cuts and failed promises.
At the surface we are fighting for funding for teachers and schools. But at the root, we a fighting to SAVE PUBLIC EDUCATION! Slowly the legislators have been deconstructing public education. This is why we now STAND. Parents, students, communities, and teachers- We now have to stand to SAVE PUBLIC EDUCATION. We keep saying it’s about more than raises and some people don’t understand. I know it because they don’t live in the world of education like me, which is why I am trying to share facts and the heart of the matter.
We LOVE our students, which is why we teach. We love them enough to fight to save their classrooms and have teachers in them! I fight FOR MY STUDENTS and I fight to SAVE PUBLIC EDUCATION.
(If there are extra funds for any reason in this account, the extra funds will be given to the BAPS Foundation. "Established in 1992, the Broken Arrow Public Schools (BAPS) Foundation has positively impacted education in Broken Arrow by providing funds for incentive grants to teachers. It has also served to connect the community with the educational process and in the improvement of education." No monies will be wasted as we continually support a better education for our students.)
