Bushfire prevention at Wild2Free

As many supporters of Wild 2 Free Inc know, the 2019-2020 bushfires all but destroyed the Wild 2 Free Inc sanctuary. Our President and volunteer at the time barely escaped with their lives thanks solely to a heroic neighbour who rescued them on his boat.

The fires left little in their wake other than a largely decimated property, a small, damaged cabin and thankfully some of our Roos.

With thanks to the generous support and donations from many we have spent the last three years rebuilding. The charity now has a purpose-built Joey House, built to bushfire specifications, that has helped many Roos to recovery since completion.

As we enter the Bushfire season again this year, the W2F committee is acutely aware that we need to prepare and protect Rae, other volunteers and the property against a very concerning bushfire season ahead of us.

As you can well imagine, the effects of such disaster are extremely traumatic and long lasting for our President and members of Wild 2 Free Inc who were and are on the ground doing incredible work every single day.

Therefore we, your Vice President and Secretary are taking the reigns for this fundraiser to assist in the installation of a sprinkler system, firehose reels and firefighting pumps based on consultation with The Rural Fire Service. We also need to purchase protective clothing for volunteers and ensure we have sufficient food and medical supplies if supply lines are disrupted.

The committee would like to thank the Rural Fire Service for its advice and our long-term volunteer Annie for all her hard work and consultation with authorities and the committee.

W2F has received a generous donation from Lush (Cruelty-free cosmetics). However, it is not enough to cover all of the costs. In order to be able to protect our volunteers for the upcoming bushfire season as best we can and to continue the phenomenal work that our President and our amazing volunteers do for the wildlife, we need your help.
