Butch & Sundance Ride Again
Donation protected
Hi everyone, I am fundraising for Butch & Sundance. They are both 30+ year old donkeys that were raised by the same owner since their birth. Unfortunately, in more recent times, the owner was no longer able to care for herself, much less her beloved boys. For the past several years the boys have been tended to by a generous neighbor for their basic needs. The owner recently passed away with no provisions for her boys.
They had no hard substrate in the barn, the barn hadn’t been mucked out for some time, most of their grazing area was overgrown with steep inclines to other grazing land and with their advanced age this had to be quite a burden on their aging bodies. Their water source was a pond but it was quite a distance from the shelter of the barn. They haven’t been tended to by a veterinarian or farrier in some time and one shows signs of some sort of hoof issue.
Much like elderly pets in animal shelters, many will pass on the opportunity to care for these aging boys as vet costs and short remaining life expectancy become an issue and being “livestock” the slaughterhouse more than often becomes the solution. I have taken these sweet angels in and many in the community have contributed feeders, food and their time and equipment to make their move here possible. I’ve provided them with a large fenced area for grazing, a barn with a floor, water and food all near the barn….but most importantly unlimited love and affection.
All money raised will go directly to the care of these lovely guys for not only their basic needs but much needed veterinary care. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated, no amount is too small. Thank you.
