Butlers court 5k and Children's superhero fun run

We have chosen to support Young Lives Vs Cancer (YLVC) and the paediatric unit at Wexham Park Hospital this year. These charities hold a special place in our school community’s heart as it was YLVC and WP that cared for one our pupils, Siya Gaur, last year. Here is her story:

“Siya was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumour, aged 4, in January 2022. It’s a journey no child or parent can ever prepare themselves for. She endured 9 months of 2 major operations, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. She was one of those unfortunate children who spiked a fever every time she had chemotherapy, which led to numerous stays in hospital, more than most children.

She spent most of our stays at Wexham Park Hospital where the staff became like family. Without their help and support to get through that period, this journey would have been harder. It did become very apparent in her stays how underfunded the paediatric unit at Wexham Park Hospital is, compared to heavily funded hospitals like GOSH.

YLVC also provided vital emotional, practical, and financial support during and after treatment. They were always on hand to help when needed, with filling out forms, offering family days out, checking in on us as a family and providing accommodation when staying in London during stays at GOSH. Young people and their families spend around £600 more per month due to their cancer diagnosis and with the current cost of living crisis families the financial support YLVC provides is invaluable”.

Siya rang the “all clear” bell on the 26th of January 2023.

Last year we managed to raise over £2000 for YLVC and with your help we’re hoping to smash that target this year. Your support to YLVC and WP is vital in helping other families who have to through similar journeys.
