Butterflies 4 Smiles
Donation protected
We are Butterflies 4 Smiles, a Coronavirus pod of 11 Elementary and Middle school kids from Richmond, Virginia, bringing smiles to thousands in our community…one butterfly at a time!
In August of 2020, when we learned that Assisted Living facility residents couldn't have visitors due to the Coronavirus, we decided to cheer up residents at our local Assisted Living facility and Butterflies 4 Smiles was born. With hard work and colorful markers, we turned coffee filters, wooden clothespins and pipe cleaners into beautiful butterflies. Each colorful butterfly was unique and brought a smile to a lonely resident.
Who knew those first 170 butterflies would lead us on such a journey! Knowing our beautiful butterflies brighten the lives of those in our community, brings us joy and the desire to deliver even more butterflies! We are incredibly dedicated and you can see us enthusiastically making butterflies most afternoons.
To date, our journey has allowed us to donate over 31,000 butterflies to numerous Assisted Living and Senior facilities, local hospitals, The Salvation Army Angel Tree Silver Bells, Feed More Meals on Wheels, UGK Community First, Virginia VA Medical Center Military Holiday Card Challenge, Pink Breast Cancer Alliance, National Smile Day, multiple food pantries, local food banks and even first responders. Some partners even receive butterflies on a monthly basis – a subscription as we like to say!
Now that we’ve reached 31,000 (!) butterflies, we’re more committed than ever to continue this journey and are asking for donations to help cover some of our costs. Our butterfly materials are washable markers, coffee filters, wooden clothespins and pipe cleaners. Other supplies include squirt bottles, hot glue sticks, foam board and photo printing.
Please consider making a donation to support Butterflies 4 Smiles, as we continue our journey bringing smiles to many…one butterfly at a time!
