Butterfly Community Outreach Project
Donation protected
These bright young girls on average miss 4 days of school per month due to the onset of their period i.e. 12 learning days in a term or about 8 weeks in a typical school year. They struggle to deal with simple hygiene issues surrounding their monthly period. There is minimal to no access to sanitary pads and for most this is just a luxury good!
In the year 2020 many of our sisters are resorting to using pieces of old foam off cuts, rags, unsanitary pieces of materials that we would never think of using on ourselves. This access issue is our problem in this day and age. Why should girls have to miss school for a physiological process that is part of our everyday lives? Many of these girls are too embarrassed to even speak about this and would rather not go to school then to have to deal with a period while at school.
This community outreach program aims to provide reusable sanitary pads for use by young girls at schools in the Republic of Zambia.
We have sourced a resorbable material at low cost that dries fast and is easy to use that we would like to provide to these young girls at no cost. To ensure a sustainable outcome we have started with a few schools and will scale up as we get better and better uptake. Our eventual goal is to source the material locally and produce the pad locally by women so as to create an income stream for these women too.
With your donation we wish to provide this valuable services to our sisters and young girls of Zambia the opportunities that we have access to and the dignity they deserve to attend school.
