Butterfly Bereavement Suite- in memory of Amelia

page. We are raising money for Southend Hospital's Butterfly Bereavement Suite.

On 28th August 2022, our daughter Amelia Grace was born sleeping in the Butterfly Suite at Southend Hospital. Our hearts are broken and Amelia will be forever loved and missed.

The staff and facilities at Southend Hospital were remarkable and we would like to give something back to the baby unit/Bereavment suite. The Butterfly Suite is not NHS funded and the midwives maintain the room through their own efforts and donations.

We were fortunate enough to be able to spend time with Amelia after her birth thanks to the cold cot that the hospital provided us with. We even got the chance to visit Amelia in the days that followed to say our final goodbyes.

Photos were taken of Amelia after she was born using the suite’s professional camera and they also later captured moments of us both with Amelia. I cannot even explain in words how priceless and precious those photos will always be to us.

We were also given a beautiful memory box filled with all of Amelia’s keepsakes and the memories these amazing midwives, Georgia and Amanda, created for us including moulds and prints of her hands and feet. There were also beautiful butterfly keepsakes which had hearts taken out the middle of them which had already been placed in Amelia’s hands for us.

Losing Amelia is a pain like no other, but we have been overwhelmed by the kindness, care and compassion we have received from these amazing midwives. Without their support and the privacy of the Butterfly Suite we have no idea how we would have got through this time.

We have not been asked to contribute towards the cost of anything, but the facilities in the Butterfly Suite, the clothes and blankets, the cuddle cot, the ward's professional camera, the photographer they hire and all of the beautiful keepsakes we have been gifted with are not without cost. We cannot thank Amanda and her team enough for everything they have done for us both and Amelia and we really want to be able to give something back to them so they can continue to help other bereaved parents in our situation.
