Butterfly woods - In memory of Mo

Donation protected
My wife Maureen, or "Mo" as she was known to friends and family, passed away in May this year, following a short illness (cancer). She was the glue that kept a widely dispersed circle of friends and family in touch with each other, keeping in touch, always remembering birthdays and special events that I would invariably forget, keeping us all informed and up to date with happenings from Amsterdam to Amersham, north Yorkshire to the south coast of England (and often far beyond).

Her passing has left a huge gap in all our lives, my three daughters and I have struggled to come to terms with her no longer being here, but there is an opportunity, with your help, to fill that void, and in doing so keep Mos memory alive and help (in some small way) to give our natural world a toe-hold on survival.

Mo loved butterflies, wearing them, watching them, drawing them, decorating cards and wedding spoons with them. At her cremation, her coffin was adorned with flowers and covered with drawings and applique butterflies, so much did everyone who attended the ceremony appreciate her love of these beautiful creatures that they felt comfortable decorating in such a fashion, for which the girls and I were eternally grateful.

Our idea is to provide a suitable habitat, (clean air, healthy flora and fauna, reasonably undisturbed, and large enough to be sustainable), where real butterflies (and bees, dragonflies etc etc etc!) can be assured of a sanctuary from all disturbance and of as much of a chance of success as we can provide.

We know that there are such places and we would like to provide one for them, to be retained in perpetuity as a place of nature and peace, with no infringement by anything that threatens the creatures who frequent it, (or who pass through, as creatures of nature have a habit of doing!). We don't seek to obtain a huge forest, simply something that is on a manageable scale, probably 3 - 5 acres but we will ensure that donors are informed of our plans throughout. We would aim to provide  a place with a mixture of meadow for wild flowers to prosper, and woodland providing shelter and cover for any animal life that happens to make it their home.

I hope you find it in your hearts to help us, and I will donate 50% of whatever is donated up to the target amount (meaning I will personally guarantee to donate £10,000)

It would be a fitting memorial for a beautiful, wonderful, kind, generous lady taken from us at a cruelly young age, with so much to look forward to with her daughters and grandchildren.

Thankyou for taking the time to read this, it is most appreciated.
