Food is my love language and for those of you who know me, owning my own food business has always been my dream.
For those of you who don't know me; hello! My name is Rika and I've loved cooking since I could remember. I have fond memories of standing on a stool in the kitchen making rice balls and spanish fried rice with my grandmother, my dad teaching me how to properly hold a knife and learning traditional Japanese recipes from my mom during New Year's. When I got to college, I quickly realized that what makes me happiest is to cook and share food with the people I care about. Every celebration I can remember has always been centered around food and the best parties I can recall had food for days.
In January of 2021, I will be leaving my full-time job to start my own venture. BUU CHAN is a tribute to my grandmother. Her nickname as a child was "little piggy" as she was a little rounder than her friends and family. I am affectionately choosing to name my food truck after her as a tribute and a "thank you" for instilling in me a love for the culinary.
I've been working in restaurants and kitchens for the last 10 years and truly believe that it's time for me to go off on my own. Your support would mean to world to me as I make the biggest transition of my life. What ever you can give would be incredibly helpful, even if they're just words of encouragement. I know times are hard right now and understand that not everyone can contribute financially. All I want is to be able to share my love and appreciation through the food I love to make.
Buu Chan will serve Asian small plates in the Bellingham area and hopefully beyond! If you have any questions or words of encouragement, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for reading!
