I am asking for support for Mike Henninger, 55 of Oelwein, Iowa. Mike is a Son, a father of 4, a brother, A Papa to 11 beautiful Grandkids and a loving boyfriend to me. Mike has always loved animals and has several pets such as Zebras, (you heard that right, zebras!!) horses, parrots, his dog Scout and a calf who thinks shes a lap dog. Mike loves his animals and loves to let people, especially his grandkids, come to see them anytime they want. Mike is already on disability, with a limited income due to a dibilitating back injury at work four years ago, resulting in four back surgeries which left him with a stimulator attached to his spine to help manage severe back pain.
Mike was burning some brush on Sunday October 28, 2018 behind our rural home when he was shot! Mike lost a lot of blood but somehow managed to call 911. He was transported by ambulance to Oelwein hospital and then air lifted to Iowa city where he underwent a seven hour surgery to repair the damage to his leg. They had to use arteries from the other leg to bypass the damaged arteries. This left him with an 8 inch incision on both of his inner thighs. He developed compartment syndrome where the blood was collecting in his lower leg. He had a faciotomy, where the surgeaon made two five inch incisions, one on each side of his calf muscle to relieve the pressure and was necessary to save his leg. The faciotomy was left open for 3 days and then another surgery was performed to close those incisions. Mike recieved 2 blood transfusions and was released after 4 days only to return the next day for another blood transfusion. He was in Iowa City for a total of 8 days, 1 life flight and 2 ambulance rides. On top of all of this, over the last year, Mike has been mourning the loss of four of his beloved animals! All four were also the result of unidentified gunshots.
- October 31, 2017 (Mike's birthday) Tazz the Zebra, was found dead from a gunshot wound.
- August 2018, Dreamy, a 5 yr old thouroughbred mare who was pregnant, lived four days after being shot in her head.
- September 2018, Zoey the Zebra, became very sick and suffered tremendously before she died, only to learn after her death it was from a gunshot wound.
-October 13th, Razzle the Zebra, found dead, cause of death... gunshot wound!!!
And now October 28th, 2018, Mike was shot in his own back yard!!!
Where any man should feel the safest, his home. As I previously mentioned Mike is on Social security disability and on a very limited income. He has already suffered so much personally and financially with the untimely death four of his furry friends. And now the medical bill's will begin to roll in for saving his own life. Not to mention the extensive therapy needed to try to regain the use of the damaged leg.
I am asking for any help we can give him because he has given so much due to the horrific chain of events In the past year! He is the most generous person I have ever met and has helped so many people when they needed anything, even when he didnt have much for himself without batting an eye, including my son and I.
We love him so much and would love for something positive to finally happen for Mike!
He deserves it and I know he will be so humbled but will appreciate any help,
Thank you all!!!
