Calling all friends and family! This is Joseph. I need your help...
Over the weekend, a fire started in the back of my apartment and quickly spread throughout the house, into the neighbors back yard, and beyond. Fortunately, no one was hurt but sixteen people have been displaced from their homes.
My room was next to the source of the flames and ceded considerable smoke and water damage. I've lost a brand new computer and external hard drives, musical instruments and microphones, my record collection and all my clothes. I did not have renters insurance and I will likely not be living here again. The house is destroyed.
Out of the rubble, I was able to salvage some sentimentals. My father's calogne, journals I've kept over the years, a stone piece of art my sister made me, my eight mararthon metals and someletters from my mother. Everything else is lost, but replaceable...
There is much left to do and the impact of the damage has still not completely set in yet. I am fortunate enough to have an outstanding support system and I couldn't be stronger without yous; my housemates, the crew at the sunshine castle, my friends and family, and most importantly, my lady Lauren who has been by my side this whole time, feeding me waffles, and keeping the cool. I can't tell you enough how much you all mean to me. I couldn't do this without you.
It's crazy to think that the sanctuary that was my room is now gone. There are many things I will miss about that place, the vinegary smell of kombucha brewing, doing "joga" on my shaggy rug, dancing to records in my underwear, falling asleep to Alan Watts lectures, and hanging out on the stoop. We will get through this and be better because of it. I just know it. Stay positive peeps!..
