Bweeng community sports and recreational facility

Hi everyone, my name is Donal Collins and I’m chairperson of our new development Bweeng Community Sports & Recreational Facility. The idea for this development first came about after the Bweeng Trail Blazers juvenile club was established in March 2021. Our juvenile training facilities were very restricted especially during the winter months and during poor weather conditions. Bweeng currently has no all-weather surface to train on for any sport. We formed a development committee and travelled the country looking at different type facilities and meeting all the people involved in each. Our multi-sport facility broke ground in March 2023. This all-weather facility will cater for a wide range of sporting interests such as sprint & long-distance running, high & long jump, shot & discus, and hurdles. It will be fully wheelchair accessible, and it will have a level drained playing field in the centre available for all sports.

To date we have completed phase 1 of the project which involved extending the existing tarred walkway with floodlighting into a donated acre of land to accommodate the footprint of our facility. We have completed the levelling of the site which was a major cut and fill as the original site had a 4-metre fall in one corner. To date we have spent €100,000.

We are now looking to complete the next phases as quickly as possible:

Phase 2 Drainage of site and laying floodlight ducting.

Phase 3 Laying of track surface.

Phase 4 Floodlighting.

Phase 5 Converting the centre into an AstroTurf surface.

These next phases are extremely expensive with us needing in excess of €1,100,000 to finish this project. I’m asking you to donate whatever you can to help meet these costs. This will be a fantastic multi-sport facility available for everyone to use both young and old. Thank you.
