Brown Family House Fire
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Remy, the son of Cecil Brown. On Christmas morning, I received the news from his neighbor that my father's house (the childhood home of my sisters and mine) was engulfed in flames. My father barely escaped the fire, crossing the frozen yard barefoot and burned, pounding at his neighbor's door for attention. In shock, out of breath, and in pain, my father was rushed to the ER before being airlifted to Virginia Commonwealth University's burn center to be treated for burns, smoke inhalation, and other injuries. He's currently on a ventilator in a medically induced coma.
The house was deemed a total loss by the fire department, so my father will be effectively starting over once he's released from the hospital. Sadly, this was home to 4 generations of Browns including my father. He grew up there, living there for nearly 7 decades and pouring his entire being into its upkeep.
As it stands right now, he has lost everything and is displaced. All proceeds will go to covering the costs of his medical bills, shelter, basic needs, and replacing what we can. We are grateful for any assistance that can be provided by anyone who is in a situation to provide it, and we thank you in advance. In the meantime--to quote my dad--"we'll make do with what we have until we get what we need."
I'd also like to thank all of the first responders who helped put the fire out and save my father, including the Staunton Fire & Rescue, Swoope Volunteer Fire Company, Churchville-Volunteer Fire-Rescue, Augusta County Fire-Rescue, Verona Volunteer Fire Co, Middlebrook Volunteer Fire Co, as well as the medical professionals at Augusta Health and VCU.
I will update this page regularly with updates as I receive them.
