Safe Rides for the Asian Community
Donation protected
Let's rise up and unite to help support the Asian/Pacific Islander community get around safe when they need to travel within their city for essential purposes!
The Asian/Pacific Islander community has been under attack more frequently due to being accused and falsely blamed for the COVID-19 pandemic. They are being judged, attacked and terrorized across Canada and many are still very afraid to leave their homes. They fear walking outside or taking public transit and being harassed or even killed. This, on top of fear of exposure to COVID.
In my Korean family, it is customary to say when a loved one is leaving the house to tell that person, "Go safely" and upon returning back that person would say, "They came back safe". I’ve seen successful ride-safe programs in New York City, Boston, San Diego and San Francisco and I would love to bring this to Toronto and Vancouver through a grassroots community initiative called, 'GO BE SAFE'.
If you are a member of the Asian/Pacific Islander community and are feeling unsafe or fearful about being targeted when taking the bus or subway for essential travel, GO BE SAFE will help to cover portions of your Lyft/Uber ride.
We’re starting with the Asian/ Pacific Islander Community, but my hope would be that we can create safe spaces for more folks in vulnerable communities nationwide.
We at GO BE SAFE want members of the community to, 'Go safely' when they leave your homes and for them to 'Come back safe' when they return back.
It’s because of this we’re looking to raise funds to get this program off the ground in Toronto and Vancouver with a target goal of $10,000 to start.
Stay tuned for further updates on how the program details and logistics.
