As many may know already, my cousin Jamie Kelly has been hospitalized for some weeks due to complications from COVID-19. His status is evolving and, although he is on a ventilator, everyone is encouraged by this Springfield Police Officer’s heart and strength as he fights his way back. His response to treatment has been slowly improving, but, as we all know at this point, this is a pivotal and vulnerable time for Jamie as his doctors employ everything in their tool chest to help him recover.

We have created this fundraiser on behalf of Jamie’s family and his girlfriend Katie Leas in order to defray their expenses and the costs of Jamie’s hospitalization and care. We don’t know how long his hospitalization may be, but we are reaching out to the SPD family and anyone who knows Jamie from the many other activities that have brought such a fun-loving, stubborn and good man into their lives for support and prayers.

I know there is nothing Jamie would rather be doing right now than working and socializing with his fellow officers, enjoying his home life with Katie, and probably telling some of the worst jokes ever to anyone who would listen. I know that the generosity of his community will go a long way to get him out of this desperate situation. If he ever needed an up-up, as the Irish side of his family might say, he needs one now.
