Our loving and caring brother Steve Carl Dixon, Jr., a 54-year-old father of three, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma in his face and jaw-bone two years ago and beat it, or so we thought! In March 2017 doctors discovered the cancer came back even more aggressive this time. Carl received both radiation and chemotherapy treatments. As you can imagine cancer care is incredibly expensive. We have decided to start this GoFundMe account in hopes that we can try to help relieve stress due to the decrease in income of him not being able to work full-time. Unfortunately, bills continue even when we are sick.
For those who are not aware, Squamous Cell Carcinoma is the second most common type of skin cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the skin’s upper layers. Over 1 million incidents of squamous cell carcinoma are found in the US. Approximately 8,800 people die from the squamous cell a year. In the United States within the past 3 years, the diagnosis has increased by 200 percent.

Many of you know Carl or you know of his courageous battle from the stories we have shared with you. His health has deteriorated detrimentally because he received the maximum amount (30 consecutive sessions of radiation) a person could have in their lifetime. Unfortunatly, it didn’t help much! Our brother has no other alternative but to use a feeding tube since he cannot swallow. We were hoping this radical treatment would shrink the tumors enough for him to have the surgery; unfortunately, it did not work. Last month he started immunotherapy which has to be done in intervals every 3 weeks because of the severe side effects and how it attacks his organs.
Carl has and keeps touching people’s lives is many ways- He is a son, a father, husband, brother, grandpa, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, and a co-worker. Our brother is brave and hardworking. Even as his health worsens, to our disbelief, he still makes every effort to go to work even if only for a few hours a day. Most of all, he is a proud man always being a splendid breadwinner supporting his family. It is our goal to assist him with our love, support, and prayers. Any way possible! This includes raising funds on his behalf.
Our hope is to be able to help with medical bills, prescriptions, specialized custom food for his feeding tube, wound care treatment, pain management care, and treatment plans as new Chemotherapy and Proton Therapy (which he is a candidate for in August and unsure if insurance will pay). Right now, his weekly appointments include Home Health, Wound Care Management, Physical Therapy, Pain Management and Immunotherapy. We want him to explore every possibility and don’t want money to be an obstacle. New treatments will continue to be available which will cross his path and pave the way for his journey that will restore his health. If you can, please consider a donation to this GoFundMe campaign for our loving brother, Carl. No Amount is too small. But mostly, please keep him and our family in your prayers! He has a long battle to fight.
You will receive an awareness bracelet as a gift from the family thanking you for your support in honor of our brother so please provide your address in the donation. Forever Grateful! #DIXONSTRONG
