In Loving Memory of Maddison Pappas

For the past 15 years, my husband and I have had the privilege and honor of being Maddison's mom and dad. She was our first-born, our baby, our "Mahun" (her nickname...it was the only way Ava could say her name when she was a baby, and it just kind of stuck).
Our baby was taken from us in the early morning hours of March 30, 2016. We were in an ICU transport unit on our way to Akron Children's main campus, and Maddison went into cardiac arrest. We pulled over to the side of the road. Erik (my husband) had been driving separately to meet us in Akron. He saw that we were stopped and pulled over, too. We sat completely helpless and watched as they intubated her and did chest compressions for over an hour. Nothing could bring her back to us. Our sweet, sweet girl passed away in an ambulance, on 76 W, on the side of the road.
As any parent knows, you NEVER plan for this. Even in the darkest corners of your nightmares, losing your child isn't a possibility. We didn't have life insurance for her, nor a giant savings. As many of you are aware, Erik learned he had brain cancer a little over a year ago and is unable to work anymore. I hate asking for money, but funerals are expensive. Really expensive. You really don't understand how expensive until you have to plan one. I can't bear the thought of Maddison not getting the service that she deserves because I can't afford it. It makes me sick to my stomach. I would be forever grateful for any help that anyone could offer.
I know that some people don't feel comfortable using their credit cards online. In that case, we are using Higgins Reardon Funeral Home on Mahoning Avenue in Austintown, so donations could also be forwarded to them directly.
The outpouring of love and sympathy from our family, friends and community has been overwhelming. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your kindness.
