Helping Afghan Refugees

Tax deductible
Women for Afghan Women (WAW) was founded in 2001 to provide life-changing, community-based programs to thousands of Afghan women, children, and families throughout both Afghanistan and the United States. Sine August of 2021, WAW has increased its efforts to help Afghans in the US, and finding new options to help clients in Afghanistan.

WAW has partnered with organizations working in Afghanistan to expand their reach and provide support to women, girls, and families in need. This includes distribution of food and healthcare goods. WAW was obligated to limit and adjust its programs based in Afghanistan in 2021 to ensure the safety of their staff and clients.

Having to scale back operations in Afghanistan, they doubled down in helping with US operations and support for Afghan women, girls, and families. They have a resource center in Virginia that serves thousands of refugees who now live in the region. They’re also helping to relocate and support the transition of Afghans across the US to new homes.

Since the Taliban takeover in 2021, WAW has seen a 300% increase in requests for its services and programs. Over 80,000 Afghans arrived in the US between 2021-2022. WAW provides services to newly-arriving Afghans on a daily basis. Along with services listed above, they also provide case management support, immigration legal services, and mental health counseling.
