Bynum’s don’t fight alone.

- Hello, as many of you know Phil Bynum has fought a long courageous battle with stage 4 cancer and has literal hours maybe days left. He is on hospice at home surrounded by his family. Phil and Tanya met in the army and have been married over 20 years. Phil retired from the army as a SSG after serving our country loyally and faithfully. They planned on living their best lives with their 4 amazing children after Phil’s retirement since they were still young and had their whole lives ahead of them. Unfortunately a few months after retirement Phil was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer which then spread to his lungs and liver. As a young healthy couple they opted out of life insurance and once the diagnosis was handed to Phil he was ineligible for life insurance. He has not been able to work the last 3 years due to all the chemo treatments and doctor's appointments. Anyone that has been tragically affected by cancer, either themselves or a loved one, knows the financial hardship it causes. They will be left with funeral costs as well as medical bills and Tanya will be left as the sole provider with one daughter about to graduate high school then heading to Augustana College and one daughter still only in 6th grade, not mention mortgage, car payment, utilities etc all while trying to grieve and learn how to live without her soulmate and life partner. This family have made a huge impact on the Sherrard community and are one of the most helpful and inspiring families I know. They are well known in the wrestling community and Tanya also coaches her daughter’s volleyball and softball teams. They are active in the school committees and always willing to lend a helping hand. They have given rides, bought equipment needed, given strength and inspiration to other students and athletes in need. Nobody deserves to be dealt this type of loss but especially not the Bynum’s. Let’s help them in their time if need and show them that they aren’t alone and we are here to support them and help them carry this burden! Anything helps. If you can’t donate please share.
