Trans Asylum Seekers Bond Fund #2
Tax deductible
Last spring we raised $50,000 as part of a revolving bond fund to help liberate transgender asylum-seekers detained at the Cibola County detention center. We have represented dozens of trans women in their bond hearings and have generally been able to advocate for bonds between $1,500-$2,500. Since the inception of this fund, we have posted bond on behalf of 23 women and provided them with post-release food and clothing assistance. It has been incredible and an integral piece of our team's ability to help these resilient women get out of prison quickly and safely arrive to their sponsors' homes.
Unfortunately, at this point our fund has basically zeroed out. Our fund hasn't started to revolve and likely won't for another year or so. And there are still more women who need immediate help with bond! Because of this, we are renewing this impressive community effort to help make sure not a single woman has to spend one more stinking minute in detention once a judge issues bond.
More information about Santa Fe Dreamers Project: Santa Fe Dreamers Project provides free legal services to immigrants to promote economic empowerment, community development, family unity, and liberation from detention. Our work at the Cibola County detention center ensures universal representation for transgender women seeker asylum. Our program is centered around achieving womens' release in the fastest possible manner and ensuring their health, safety, and wellbeing can no longer be jeopardized by ICE's atrocious detention policies.
