Helping the Youth of Cambodia

Aloha HPU South East Asia Pioneers,

Dr. Primm here. For many years students have been traveling to Cambodia and Thailand to learn about the history, culture, society and especially the people of those wonderful but struggling nations.

The initial time visiting Cambodia, we were pretty much on our own. The second time we traveled there, we had the fortune to have Vuttha Dam as our tour guide. (see picture) We were so impressed with his service that, in the subsequent years of our study abroad program, I insisted that Vuttha be our leader.

He not only was the consummate professional in every way, but he was also the most caring and kind person I have ever met. He was totally dedicated to us, his clients.

Because of Covid, Vuttha lost his job. Now he is setting up his own tour company. As part of his company's “give back to Cambodian society” mission statement, Vuttha will create internships to train village and orphan youths to work in the tour industry. He will also start cooking classes to train others to become cooks. His long-range goal is to create a Cambodian-run NGO to serve the educational and employment needs for Cambodian youth. Think about how much you gained from your experience in Asia, and please consider "giving back" to the less fortunate young adults there. Go Sharks!
