Give a Dying Boy the Gift of Family Time

Thomas' Journey

Thomas is a 3 year old boy with the very rare disease of SCID who has spent over 850 days of his short little life as an inpatient in hospital.  850 days of tests, being poked and prodded.  Of tubes.  Of infections.  Of pain.

Starting his journey in Brisbane, he fought off countless infections and received a bone marrow transplant.  When complications from Graft Vs Host Disease were becoming more severe, he and his parents relocated to Melbourne earlier this year for essential treatment, just before COVID hit and they were locked down from all family support.  Tom was transferred to the hospital in Melbourne and his parents moved into a Ronald McDonald house.  As you can imagine, the expenses of relocation have been huge.

His parents, Leah and Morgan, have survived the definition of a living hell.  They have not been able to continue their employment through these years.  They have taken turns living in the hospital with him, away from their family and loved ones.  On the rare occasion Thomas was allowed out of hospital, they took on the role of doctor and nurse, as well as parent.  They have had to fight for their little boy every step of the way.  Doctors from around the world have been fighting for Thomas exhaustively, but this illness is like none they have ever seen before.

Why we need your help
A few weeks ago, Tom developed an infection that required brain surgery.  He has been an induced coma ever since.  Leah was deprived of spending the last hours of consciousness with her son due to circumstances beyond her control.

It appears there is now no hope of recovery for Thomas.  The Collins' have now hit their limit of what they can handle financially.  They now face the likelihood of funeral expenses and a journey of healing while they grieve their little boy.

I ask this at their request - if you can, please make a donation to help them through this difficult time.  They do not wish for flowers, food packages or other gifts - they need funds to allow them to spend all the time they have left with their little boy without the stress of financial worry.  They need time and financial help to allow them to farewell their little boy and grieve in private without worrying about how they will pay the bills.

Any donation, small or large, would be very much appreciated by these two loving parents of this beautiful boy who has fought such a courageous battle.  Every single dollar gives these parents longer to focus on their little man and get through the most devastating time a family will ever face.  Thank you.
