Elena’s recovery

Hi, we (Elena's friends & family ) started this fundraiser for Elena. She was injured while working with horses over the weekend and has a long road to recovery. She is a strong girl and we are hoping for the best. Thank you for your support.

We wanted to add an update & on the story of Elena's recovery. The message below is from her mom, Cassandra.

"On Sunday, July 23 Elena was working with horses and one horse kicked another horse and Elena was not able to get out of the way fast enough. She was transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville. She has three broken ribs and perforations on her kidney and spleen which caused internal bleeding around her kidney. The kidney collecting system was severely damaged which caused urine to leak outside of her kidney. She was in ICU for 6 days.

She had surgery on July 31, placing a stent into her left ureter to divert urine from the kidney. She will continue to be in the hospital while the Trauma doctors will continue to monitor her condition.

This accident is the second major incident to happen in Elena’s life in the past year. Last November Elena’s horse, Iris passed away in a tragic accident. She has continued to spend her time working at the Stable where Iris was boarded. Elena is a strong little human with big dreams and goals. She will make it through this. It’s just going to be a long road to a complete recovery."
