Brie has struggled with a serious eating disorder for 21 years. Her medical condition has become life threatening - causing physical reactions including difficulty breathing (requiring ER visits and use of an epi-pen), as well as the deterioration of vital parts of her body. While she does not appear on the outside to be this critical, she truly is very ill, barely functioning, and unable to do normal life tasks. All treatments have been exhausted in-state; her doctors have strongly advised that her recovery requires out of state hospitalization, for a long period of time.
The cost of treatment is exorbitant and, as you can imagine, her insurance carrier has fought against her every step of the way. Previously, her insurance has denied on-going treatment and hopes are not high that her insurance will provide for more than a fraction of the 4-6 months of anticipated out of state treatment (let alone for continued medical support after hospitalization). Brianna's inability to obtain proper treatment -- because of the cost -- is her only remaining obstacle. She wants to be well and is starting her journey tomorrow, on a hope and a prayer that she can stay in treatment until she is healthy.

So many people do not get the medical help they need because insurance dictates what is important and what is not me this is very true and why I have not been able to get the help I have needed and so desperately want. I have never been one to ask for help, but I believe in community, love, and healing. Helping others is dear to my heart and I hope to be able to "pay it forward" because I believe everyone deserves the chance to live a full and beautiful life. Being open and asking for help is a risk for me, but I am leaning on my faith and on those close to me that if I take this risk it is possible that there are people all around and the journey does not have to be done on my own.
