What is “My Backyard Friends Project”?

“My backyard Friends” project is a community driven project that aims at raising the awareness and the respect of the wide variety of wildlife residing in the North Bay.

The project started last summer when I sorted through one year worth of pictures taken in my backyard and along the bay shores. I then realized I had taken pictures of no less than 40 different bird species, about ten different butterflies and other insects and much more. Amazed by my discovery I felt the need to share this experience in the hope it would benefit the greater good. After consulting with, and receiving the support of several close friends and wildlife agencies, Paul and I have decided to materialize this project.

How will “My backyard Friend Project” materialize?

The project will unfold in three stages. The first stage will be an onsite and online exhibit entitled “My backyard Friends” that will present pictures, short videos and other educational material provided by the Lindsay Wildlife Experience and the San Francisco Bay Living Shorelines Project. The exhibit will be staged as an invitation for local communities to share their “Backyard Friends” experience and add on to the exhibit. Local schools will be invited to participate in the project. The second stage will be the gathering and sorting of the communal backyard friends experience. The third stage will be an onsite and online exhibition of the communal experience.

What does “My backyard Friends Project” need and how will the Funds be spent?

At this early stage of the project, we need a website and a webmaster, estimated cost for a medium size operated website is $5000/6000. We also need funds to print promotional material to present to potential partners and for educational packages prototypes. Thanks to Paul’s extensive expertise in the printing industry, we will be able to avoid common costly mistakes and will have access to the best suited printers for our needs. We are working to have the project become a non-profit or join an existing one to be eligible for grants opportunities.

Why does this project mean so much to us?

This project is dear to us because we are convinced it will raise the awareness of the magnificent environment we live in to the general public. It will add support to the local schools in their efforts of environmental awareness and ultimately, foster the development of protecting habits for these little and not so little creatures living in our backyards and beyond.

Thank you for your time, help and support!

Sincerely, Fab and Paul
