WAR! What’s it good for? Lesbians, apparently… This tragi-comedy follows the relationships between four queer women anticipating the end of the war in a bomb shelter turned bachelor pad. But when the men return, will they lose everything?
Hello everyone,
Welcome to Bachelor Girls, written and directed by Evanthe Gee & Connie James and Produced by Rosa Melvin. Help us make it to Edinburgh as Bristol Dramsoc’s Fringe Show for 2024! Bachelor Girls explores the queer joy which has been hidden away in the pockets of history we never bothered to look. When the war breaks out in 1939, the nation despairs, while Billie, Jude, V and Claudia quickly realise that for queer women, this war means freedom. A chance to work, dress and love unencumbered by their male counterparts. Air-raids are just
an excuse for the girls to drink and play ridiculous games in their sub-society of V’s bomb shelter-turned-bachelor pad, furnished with a booze cabinet and a record player.
Why Donate?
As proponents of Queer Theatre, we’re fascinated by the stories of queer individuals who’ve been buried by history. We’re paying homage to these individuals, while writing a timeless love letter to ourselves, and queer women everywhere. We’ve written Bachelor Girls for our younger selves and for anyone else who barely ever sees themselves reflected in the media they consume. It’s time for our stories to be heard, finally.
What your money will go towards...
Bristol DramSoc prides itself on providing industry-level opportunities at the most accessible level possible. This meant that we were able to take a loan from our society to put on this show, covering the cost of accommodation, and our venue hire. Without this loan, our cast and crew would not have had the opportunity to take a show to Fringe and perform, and we are incredibly grateful and honoured to represent the society and receive this! But, indeed, this is a loan, and we must pay it back. 100% of donations will go to DramSoc, so we can continue facilitating many more years of life-changing experiences for our members. We cannot change the whole theatre industry, but we have certainly started here in DramSoc, and hope to be able to raise this money to continue the journey of redefining how theatre is made.
