Marc prior to his diagnosis
Marc with Pop Pop Joe
Recently, at the young age of 29, my nephew Marc Williams has been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Syndrome), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. This indiscriminant progressive neurodegenerative disease is incurable and affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Since his tragic diagnosis , Marc has dysphagia (the inability to swallow), has lost the ability to hold his head up due to loosing all of his neck muscles, is on a feeding tube, is now unable to walk without falling, and is on machines to help him breathe. The pain is unbearable.
Our family has a strong belief in Faith, but the expense of this disease is taking its toll. From machine rentals, the expense of nutritional supplements, medical deductibles, the loss of work.... the list goes on and on. It is overwhelming!
Marc resides in Brigantine with his mother Beth Rifice Williams, his father Glenn Williams, and his brother Matt who are doing all they can to love and support him through this very difficult time.
Marc is the most loving, caring, smart young man that I know. His 30th birthday is on August 21st -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARC!
Thanks for whatever support you are able to give and please keep him and our family in your prayers.
