Power to the People - Solar power for CRAB Park

Donation protected

Help power up the off-the-grid micro-society at CRAB Park tent city with sustainable solar and wind power electricity.

Power is needed for warmth and safety — to light up the community tent and kitchen, for hot water, sanitation and food security, to light up dark pathways, and for charging phones, lanterns, flashlights and headlamps.

The tiny town that already broke so many barriers is ready to break another. The community has existed for two and a half years, and became the first legal outdoor sheltering area in the country in January 2022 after winning in BC Supreme Court*. The goal of the solar power project is to create one main station and two substations and charging stations for everyone.

“Our goal is being off the grid and sufficient,” says Kerry. “Winning the court case wasn’t a fly-by-night thing; our intentions are bigger than that. Our intentions are to be independent and self-sufficient and show that we’re much more capable than people give us credit for.”

“They say this city is a garden city. This is about using clean, renewable energy and not relying on fossil fuels,” says Clint.

“The goal of this project is to develop two charging substations and one main station in the middle at the community tent. And enough power for everyone to run everything.” - Clint

“Power to the people, right on” - John Lennon
