My name is Nomar Slevik and I wrote the book, UFOs Over Maine: Close Encounters from the Pine Tree State. It was released in 2014 and since then, I have written six other books on the phenomenon, made two documentaries, and started a podcast (which is now in its seventh season).

A decade has passed since the release of that book but it was May of 2022 when I decided to write a 10th-anniversary edition. I allowed myself a two-year timeframe to completely rewrite the book AND add as many new, compelling, and never-before-published encounters as possible. The video included here is an example of one of those new and compelling stories which was not included in the original work.

My goal was to make the absolute best version of my first published work, and now... IT IS FINISHED (woohoo!!) With over 400 pages and almost 200 encounters, this is the most comprehensive collection of extraterrestrial stories from the people of the state of Maine.

I would be unable to create as much as I have if it wasn't for the good people interested in the subject matter and my work. This new project is no different and I have created this fundraiser so I can get UFOs Over Maine: 10th Anniversary Edition PRINTED and OUT TO ALL OF YOU.

My fascination with UFOs all began on a quiet April night in 1981 when a loud bang jolted me awake. Unsure of the source, I peered into the darkness, my attention drawn to subtle taps on my bedroom window. The sky illuminated as I knelt on my bed. I observed the flickering sky and echoing rumbles, a sudden crack of thunder followed by an unusual lightning bolt seared into my memory. It seemed stuck in the clouds, but my eyes were heavy. Falling asleep, I was left with the lingering image of a jagged yellow line of electricity.

The following morning, I noticed that the lightning bolt was still in the sky. I couldn’t believe it and excitedly ran to get my father, but the phenomenon vanished once he arrived. I tried explaining the storm, the thunder, the bright lightning bolt, and how I fell asleep after seeing it, but it made no sense to him. It made no sense to me. Only later, as a teenager, did I wonder if it had been my first UFO sighting.

That encounter ignited my fascination with all things unexplained. I used to beg my mother to tell me ghost stories that happened to her family at their home in Eagle Lake. I eventually had my own hair-raising experiences. While frightening, those experiences also captured my heart. My fear was balanced with curiosity, and as time passed, fear gave way to obsession. I would ask friends and family if they had ever seen a UFO or if their homes were haunted. I collected newspaper articles about witnesses who saw lights in the sky, checked out every Bigfoot and UFO book from my school’s library, and acquired all the paranormal literature I could afford when we had book fairs at school. Unbeknownst to me, I was amassing the stories that would shape UFOs Over Maine.

The Beginning Process:

Ok, now that I’ve decided to rewrite the book, where do I begin? Instead of staring at the cold tundra of a blank document in Microsoft Word, trying to will words into existence like some two-dimensional tulpa, I opted for a notebook and a pen. I took those and my bicycle to the Day Mountain Bridge located in Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor and began writing.

I managed to fill about 12 handwritten pages before switching to my trusty laptop, the same one I used for my three previous books. After correcting grammar and spelling errors, seeing the words taking shape felt satisfying.

My primary goal was to “fix” the old chapters from the original book and I wanted to expand on specific chapters by incorporating updated and newly learned information.

Furthermore, I have discovered numerous previously unknown-to-me encounters that have caught my attention since the first book’s publication. Many of those cases have never been shared before and I cannot wait for you to read them.
