Cabbage’s Eye Fund

Donation protected
Cabbage joined our family almost a decade ago on the 27th of October 2011 when we rescued him through All Dogs Matter. In that time we've become the absolute best of friends.

TL;DR Cabbage is blind and added complications have meant he needs cataract surgery costing £5000.

Saved from the streets and looking like a complete scruff, we knew immediately that together we were gonna have the most amazing adventure and that's exactly what's happened. ☺️

He's had his fair share of ups and downs and was already suffering from arthritis and being deaf. It's been a tough year for most but sadly 2020 decided to be extra cruel to our little lad.

Earlier this year, back at the beginning of May, he was diagnosed as having diabetes. This was shocking news in itself but we were also told that it was guaranteed he would eventually go blind. ⏭ Fast forward to October and heartbreakingly that happened.

It's been a really horrible few months for him and we've struggled to know what would be best. Eventually, time ran out after his eyes deteriorated further and his lens capsules ruptured. Something had to be done urgently.

We've had numerous visits to the ophthalmology department at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals and an ever-growing number of emails, calls, and conversations with the vets.

Yesterday we made the decision for Cabbage to undergo cataract surgery in the hope that this would help the health of his eyes and ultimately improve his quality of life. Although it's highly unlikely he'll get full vision back there's a good chance he could get some.

He was admitted this afternoon, if the results of tests today come back ok, he'll have surgery tomorrow and will be back with us at the weekend. It's the first night in over 9 years he's not slept cuddled up in bed with one of the family and we've got our fingers crossed it's also the last.

There are many possible complications that could occur over the next few months but if all goes to plan he'll be doing much better soon and will see again, albeit just distance.

We've set up this Go Fund Me to help with the cost of the operation, the estimate for surgery being £5000. In the last month, we accrued costs totaling £492.15 for the treatment he's had recently, and separate from these figures and prior to the recent issues we've already paid out almost £1800 because of his diabetes, etc this year.

We intend to share updates here to be completely transparent about where the money is going and if we're lucky enough to raise more than our target we'll be donating anything over the total of the vet bills to the wonderful charity All Dogs Matter so they can continue the incredible work they do rescuing and rehoming dogs.

We've attached some pics below so you can see who it is you'll be helping out.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out and we'll do our best to get back to you.

Thanks in advance! ❤️
