Cafe Urbano outside seating
Donation protected
Your favorite neighborhood spot, Cafe Urbano, has finally been approved for Chicago’s highly sought after sidewalk cafe permitting! And we need a little help from our friends and neighbors!
Cafe Urbano has been serving the Irving Park/ West Walker neighborhood for 6 years and we could not be more grateful for our tribe of friends, neighbors, and guests. With health and safety at the forefront, our compliance with the elimination of our small indoor dining area has left little to no space for some much needed (socially distanced) coffee breaks and fellowship. Truthfully, strict city ordinances on dining spaces have been tough. The allowance of outdoor dining is a bright side for many Chicago restaurants, which we don’t have… yet!
Enter - our endeavor to obtain sidewalk patio permitting is complete! This small feat is hardly the finish line, as we have a new and exciting challenge ahead of us. Due to financial stress caused by the pandemic and our commitment to creatively keep our staff employed while serving the community, we are low on the resources to fulfill this goal on our own. We have created a GoFundMe to crowdfund this venture, which allows for many members of the community to band together to support the creation of a neighborhood hang-out with small-scale contributions to help us reach our collective goals!
The plan for the funds will contribute to creating a red brick sidewalk extension for the seating area to match the exterior of Cafe Urbano’s infrastructure located on Avers Ave., while preserving the trees. Additionally, an outdoor sound system will be added to create a serene and focused space, along with two cameras for increased security of our guests, rustic furniture and landscaping; flowers and greenery to be featured on *both* sides of our corner decorating the south-west intersection of Elston and Avers!
These changes are sure to last long after the passing of these trying times and we aim to increase property value of our neighboring lots, while providing a fantastically versatile outdoor lounge which is a win/win for the entire community!
Thank you for your continued support and allowing us to serve your community through all of life’s ups and downs. Every little bit helps and is received with our utmost gratitude.
