Help with the launch of Café Calaveras

Hi there everyone! My name is Clarissa Griego. I am currently working to open a new cafe in Seattle with a mission to nurture a community oriented and creatively driven space where everyone feels welcome, whether you’re looking for a space to focus and work, to catch up with a friend over coffee, or to meet new people through a community event.

I moved to Seattle in 2018 from San Antonio, Texas, a city bursting at the seams with Latin heritage and culture. My aim is to create a gathering space that brings a little of this vibrancy to Seattle.

Café Calaveras will work to amplify the Latinx voice and help foster a sense of belonging in the Mexican diaspora of Seattle. Our shop will host a variety of community outreach events, and work closely with the BIPOC and queer communities. Events will vary from creative workshops, live music and art events, and coffee competitions and education, to neighborhood meetings, and philanthropic fundraisers.

We will offer quality coffee beverages, carefully sourced coffee products, and Mexican-inspired small bites such as breakfast tacos, churros, tamales, and dulce de leche bites. The cafe’s design and overall branding will be largely inspired by the ancient Mexican celebration, Dia de los Muertos, and there will be elements of this cultural tradition woven into the decor, walls, paintings, merch, etc.

All funds that are raised will be used to help build a vibrant space to call home including securing a leased space, renovating and decorating the cafe, employing a small start-up team, and purchasing equipment, ingredients, furniture, wholesale products, etc.
