Cahaba River Walk Trail Initiative
Donation protected
The Cahaba River Walk Trail Initiative will benefit the residents of Irondale as well as the many regional users of the Cahaba River boat launch, swimmers, dog swimmers, hikers, and picnickers. It will support the Freshwater Land Trust Cahaba River Walk Trail. The project will clean up the river banks and trail, help protect the river health and sensitive riverbank ecosystems, increase safety, and enhance the natural beauty of the area. The area is very popular and heavily used in the summer months, drawing visitors regionally. The current trash bins are too small, without lids and chained to the trees. There currently are no signs as to litter, glass, Park Rules, etc.
The Initiative will provide larger, more appropriate trash receptacles with heavy wooden, dual cabinets with lids, resting pads for the cabinets, secured to the ground. We will also purchase four 50 gal trash bins with lids; 5 metal custom signs, protective coverings, pressure treated posts to mount signs, pet waste baggie dispenser, various hinges, hardware, wood, etc as needed. The signage will post Park Rules; Swim at Risk (2); No Glass/Alcohol/Tobacco; Picnic Area; No Littering
The project is ready to get underway as quickly as the funds are available. The project will depend upon the financial support as well as volunteer support. Any funds not used on the above listed items will be applied to additional improvements. Let's get it done!
