Back in June my family received horrible news: Dad has cancer (diffuse large B cell lymphoma). So many folks have helped in so many ways, and it means the world to my family. Dad is very proud, working his way into retirement and wanted to see how things went before accepting any financial help. Initially, it seemed this was going to be a very treatable form but sadly it hasn’t responded to treatment as expected. Multiple different chemotherapies have failed, so he is now in a program for CAR-T transfusion. The lab work to modify Dad’s T cells is currently underway, with transplantation scheduled for next week.
All of this has meant frequent trips over an hour from home to the oncologist, pain management, outpatient clinic, and multiple admissions / hospital stays. Tough decisions about whether to pay for a hotel stay or fight traffic/unsafe drivers while struggling with pain, nausea, and exhaustion. Dad hates complainers, but there is a practical limit. Unable to eat much, Dad has been living on Ensure and unfortunately throwing away a lot of food as his tastes and ability to eat any solid foods changes minute to minute.
As a result, there have been a multitude of unexpected costs: not just medical bills but gas, food, overnight stays to get to daily appointments, parking, etc. Many of you have expressed wanting to help in this financial way, and my parents have finally agreed to accept it. Any amount you can spare will help cover these costs, and my family is deeply appreciative. Even if you cannot donate, we’re grateful for all the love, support, and well wishes from everyone.
In this family, no one fights alone.
